What 1 Timothy 4:12 means
Paul doesn't tell Timothy to demand respect. The answer to being despised for youth is to be an example, and he lists six places it shows: word, conversation, charity, spirit, faith, purity. Conversation means manner of life. The young man's defence is his conduct.

14Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
