Ephesians · chapter 6 · verses 1–3
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.Ephesians 6:1-3 · King James Version
What Ephesians 6:1-3 means
Paul quotes the fifth commandment and points out something about it — this is the first commandment with promise, and the promise is length of days. He gives children a reason rather than only an order, which is what he does with everybody else in this letter.
