What Galatians 2:20 means
Paul says the old life is already over: I am crucified with Christ. What's living now is Christ in him, which is a change of occupant rather than self-improvement. And the life he still lives in the flesh he lives by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

21I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
