What Philippians 1:6 means
He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it — the confidence is in the one who started it, not in the one it's happening to. Paul puts the finish line at the day of Jesus Christ, so it was never going to be done this year. Begun and will finish are both his verbs.

8For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
