What Psalm 18:2 means
Seven images piled into one verse, every one of them defensive. David wrote it the day the LORD delivered him from Saul, so the fortress language is not decorative. My is repeated so often that the verse is as much about possession as about protection.

3I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
4The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
