Matthew 5:8 KJV

Matthew · chapter 5 · verse 8

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.Matthew 5:8 · King James Version

What Matthew 5:8 means

One of the beatitudes, and the reward is matched to the condition. Pure here carries the sense of unmixed rather than merely clean — a heart with one aim in it. What is promised is not reward in general but sight, which is what an unmixed heart was after.

Commentary

Christ begins his sermon with blessings, for he came into the world to bless us (Act 3:26), as the great High Priest of our profession; as the blessed Melchizedec; as He in whom all the families of the earth should be blessed, Gen 12:3.
